Drinking water supply project based on Sardar Sarovar Canal
Gujarat being a drought prone State, providing safe and assured drinking water supply to a large population in Kutch, Saurashtra and North Gujarat has been a great challenge for the State Government. Narmada Canal based drinking water supply project was taken up in the State to cover about 75 percent population of the State through a State Wide Drinking Water Grid. Narmada Master Plan is aimed at covering 9490 villages and 173 towns in Gujarat, which is being executed by Gujarat Water Supply and Sewage Board (GWSSB) (www.gwssb.gujarat.gov.in) and Gujarat Water Infrastructure Ltd. (GWIL) (www.wasmo.org). The achievements under Narmada Canal based drinking water supply project are highlighted hereafter in tabular format/maps.
